"The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) is the leading not-for-profit organization exclusively dedicated to understanding and preventing suicide through research and education, and to reaching out to people with mood disorders and those impacted by suicide."

"With 112 walks held in 40 states nationwide, AFSP’s signature fundraising event this year drew 26,000 participants and raised $2.5 million, before expenses, for suicide prevention.
Forty-eight new walks were held in 2007, to help fund suicide prevention research and local prevention and educational programs.
Over 3,400 walkers took part in the four largest events, held in Chicago, San Francisco, Birmingham, Ala., and Long Island, N.Y., raising a combined $480,000 for the cause."
